The National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) is an NIH-funded project to develop and provide substantially expanded mentoring and coaching for aspiring young scientists with an overall mission to increase the diversity of the scientific workforce. One element of NRMN, the Professional Development Core (PDC) is focused primarily on the scientific development period from late PhD training through early faculty years. A variety of professional development resources and programs will be developed and deployed, but one of the first is intensive coaching on writing of research and career development proposals. Four different but complimentary successful models for guiding development of grant writing skills have been developed at four participating PDC centers.
Through a supplement to the NRMN grant, the model developed at Northwestern University will be deployed through the CIC Academic Network (CAN) as NRMN-CAN starting with the Professional Development Conference at the Big Ten Conference Center in Rosemont, IL, October 29 - October 31, 2017. To achieve this, coaches are needed from each of the participating institutions to be trained in the Northwestern University model, largely through participation and real-time practices. Grant Writing Coaching Groups initiated at the conference will then be led by respective coaches at their home institutions. This application and solicitation is to recruit and select those coaches.
This application contains standard questions asked of all NRMN participants, and are included to maintain uniformity in data collection across the NRMN programs.
Please contact pdc@nrmnet.net with questions.
